I Am Not My Postpartum Body
You are not your body. You are more than what you look like. Your body belongs to you. It is not you.
Postpartum isn’t kind. It’s hard. We all recover from the natural miracle of making a baby from scratch, but for some of us it takes more time.
Mentally and physically our journeys are all different. Our postpartum mindset and postpartum body is ours. And it is what it is. Nothing more. Nothing less.
It is not a sign of failure
It is not a sign of weakness
It is not a sign of laziness
YOU ARE NOT a failure
You succeeded at bringing life into this world
YOU ARE NOT Weak
You are stronger than you’ve ever been, even if you don’t feel it right now. Strength presents best over time, not in a given moment.
YOU ARE NOT lazy
You’ve had more demands placed on your body, your energy, your hormones and your time than you have ever had in your entire life. You’ve earned the grace to rest.
You are loved
You are cherished
You are mom
That tiny baby will one day make you feel all those things and will say the words “I love you”.
Who is Christopher Reves? He’s the original superman from the 1980s. Think the Henry Cavill of the 1980s. Christopher was paralyzed in a horseback riding accident, and when interviewed after the accident he said “I am not my body”. That’s all people associated him with. His body. And he reminded them that he was more.
